England Knights name 19-man squad

Date published: Thursday, October 3, 2013

England Knights coach Kieron Purtill has named a 19-man squad for the friendly against Samoa at Salford City Stadium on Saturday, October 19 (2pm).

The squad features players from 10 different Super League clubs, including six from the 2013 Super League Grand Finalists – Dom Crosby, Sam Powell, Scott Taylor and Iain Thornley of Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves duo Stefan Ratchford and Richie Myler.

The match is a curtain-raiser to the England v Italy (4.30pm) international which will be the first chance for fans to see England’s NRL-based players, including the Burgess brothers Sam, Tom and George.

With the World Cup fast approaching, and the deadline for the final senior squad announcement not until England arrive back from their high-altitude training in South Africa, the match against Samoa represents the last chance for players to force themselves into Steve McNamara’s plans.

“We’re pleased with the squad and it’s a good opportunity for the players, you never know who’s watching,” said Purtill.

Samoa are preparing for World Cup group games against New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and France and Purtill believes that playing against full internationals will tell him a lot about his players.

Tickets for the England v Italy and England Knights v Samoa double header at Salford City Stadium on Saturday October 19 cost just £15 for adults and £5 for concessions and can be purchased by calling the RFL Ticket Office on 844 856 1113 or by visiting www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk

Fans can also take advantage of a ‘One ticket, three matches’ offer at Salford City Stadium which gives entry to England Knights v Samoa, England v Italy and the Scotland v USA RLWC2013 match on Thursday November 7 (8.00pm) for only £20 for adults and £10 for concessions.
