Curtain-raiserDate published: Thursday, March 24, 2016
St Anne’s under-7s will play Waterhead under-7s in a curtain-raiser to the Good Friday clash of Oldham and Halifax at Bower Fold in the KP Championship.
The youngsters will kick-off at 1.15pm, Saints coached by David Johnson and Waterhead by Leigh Biggs.
They were due to play ahead of the Bradford Bulls game, which was postponed because of snow on the pitch.
Said Johnson: “The boys are really excited. It will be the first time they’ve played in a stadium. I know they’ll kick-off to a thinly-populated ground, but they’ll enjoy a lap of honour at half-time when they’ll get a few cheers.”
A group of players from the St Anne’s under-8s squad acted as Oldham mascots at the cup-tie against Kells last week, going out on to the pitch with the Roughyeds team at the start and having their photograph taken, both with the team and also with Roary, the Roughyeds’ mascot.
