Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth-round draw

OLDHAM have welcomed a Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth-round draw that will bring Barrow Raiders to Whitebank twice in two weeks.

They are here this Sunday in a Co-operative Championship One top-of-the-table clash (3pm kick off) and they will be back a fortnight later for the cup tie.

“It’s an interesting tie and it will certainly add more spice to this weekend’s league game,” said Roughyeds chief Chris Hamilton.

He added: “We will know a lot more about each other after Sunday.

“Our tie is the only one in which a side from our division is guaranteed to advance to the fifth round and that’s an opportunity that both ourselves and Barrow will be keen to grasp.

“As the home team, we have to make the most of that advantage.”

In a piece on their club website, Barrow say they have been given a “great chance” of reaching the fifth round and a possible money-spinner against Super League opposition.

They say player-coach Darren Holt and his assistant Phil Atkinson will learn a lot from the league game and that knowledge will be put to good use in the cup-tie.

Now in his third spell at Craven Park, 35-year-old Holt made his 300th appearance for the club in the Raiders’ 32-22 cup win over French club Lezignan last Sunday.

His six goals from seven attempts from stand-off helped the Raiders to record their sixth win in a row.

In both upcoming games against Barrow, the goalkicking of Holt and Oldham’s Jamie Dallimore will be of great significance.

For years, Holt has been one of the most prolific goalkickers in the two Championship divisions, while Dallimore, 12 years his junior, is proving himself one of the best young marksmen in the third tier.
