Briscoe out of Law Cup clashDate published: Friday, January 29, 2016
CRAIG Briscoe is out of Sunday’s Law Cup derby clash with Rochdale Hornets at Spotland (3pm kick-off).
Oldham’s new back-row forward damaged a knee in the first few minutes of the Roughyeds’ 22-0 win at Barrow where he was carried off and took no further part in the game.
The damage to an anterior ligament is not thought to be serious, but his prospects of being fit for the opening Championship game against London Broncos at Bower Fold on Sunday week (3pm) are said to be in the balance.
Although other players picked up bumps and bruises at Craven Park they will all be ready for the first Law Cup duel since 2013 when Roughyeds provided Scott Naylor with a winning start to his Oldham coaching job.
While Naylor’s men were winning at Barrow last Sunday, Rochdale produced an impressive show to triumph 30-24 at Swinton despite having forward Stuart Biscomb sent off after a last-minute brawl.
Hornets are expecting big things of their latest signing Chris Riley (27), the former Warrington and Wakefield winger who, in recent years, has played for Warrington in three Challenge Cup finals at Wembley and two Super League Grand Finals at Old Trafford.
** Oldham have confirmed they will put on a special 70-seat bus to carry fans from Whitebank to each of their home games this season at Bower Fold, Stalybridge.
It will be heavily subsidised by the club and the return trip will cost only £1.50 per person (all ages).
The Whitebank social club will open each game day at 12.45pm and the coach will leave at 1.45pm.
To avoid disappointment, fans must book in advance for each home game by ringing the club on 07904898177 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Bookings are now being taken for the London Broncos game.
The coach will set off back to Whitebank 15 minutes after the final hooter.
