POLICE are investigating a break-in last night at the Whitebank Stadium. Thieves broke into the ground and then forced an entry into a cabin that houses the match-day office. They made off with a number of tools.

It is believed they were disturbed by local residents who went to investigate when they heard intruders inside the ground .

“The club would like to thank residents for their public-spirited action,” said the Roughyeds’ chairman, Christopher Hamilton, who was called to the ground last night when the alarm was raised.

The club stresses that it will be business as usual on Sunday when Roughyeds expect a near-capacity 1,500 crowd for their Championship One semi-final play-off against York City Knights. The winners will go straight through to the Grand Final at Warrington on September 26, with promotion to the Championship the ultimate prize.
