‘All about getting the right result’ – Scott

SCOTT Naylor is starting to wonder if there will ever again be a dry Sunday in Oldham.

“If we’ve a home game it’s a banker bet it’s going to pour down,” said a cold, saturated Roughyeds’ boss after his side’s 38-10 defeat of Coventry Bears at wet and windy Whitebank.
“Is it ever fine here ?
“We’re just itching for a dry day and a firm pitch so that we can play the sort of rugby we want to play, but this was our third Sunday home game this season, every one of them against Coventry and every one of them played in heavy rain and bitterly cold weather.
“I’m pleased by the result, obviously, and in weather like this, particularly as it was our third game in ten days, it was all about getting the right result, and not a lot else.
“The Rochdale and North Wales Crusaders games were very intense and very physical so we made a few changes in order to use the full squad, bringing in three boys on debut and they all did a very good job.
“Some boys switched positions too and when you take all those things into account, and also factor in the weather, we put in a very creditable performance.
“It was good to see the young lads coming in and doing so well, wasn’t it.
“Each of our three wins against the Bears was tougher than the score might suggest. They are doing well in their first season at this level. Their heads never drop, they keep going to the end and I’ll be surprised if they don’t finish in a very respectable position in the table.
“It will be nice now, after the ups and downs of the last ten days, to get back to the normal routine of three-times-a-week training and then the game on Sundays.
“Happily, I can report that I will once again have a fully-fit squad to pick from for the game in South Wales next Sunday.”
