A sporting chance for Limehurst and Hollinwood

Many of us will have started 2014 with a resolution to improve our health and get fit! Maybe find a new sporting hobby or join a local sports club? Meet new friends at a weekly fitness class or encourage old friends to take up a sporting challenge with you to keep you motivated throughout 2014?

But just how easy is it to find the right sport for you in your area?  Do you even know what sport or fitness activities might suit you?  And when you do find something you fancy doing, is it on at the right time, in the right place and at the right price?

The Regenda Group in partnership with Contour Homes and Oldham Council are developing a sport and physical activity action plan for Limehurst and Hollinwood which forms an important part of the Neighbourhood Cooperative Agreement signed last year and the Limehurst Village regeneration project.

As part of this process the Regenda Group is consulting widely with a range of local partners and is now particularly keen to hear residents views as to the type of sport and physical activities people would like to see offered closer to home.

Chris Standish, Limehurst Village Project Manager from the Regenda Group, believes the time is right for consultation with local residents. ‘Sport and wellbeing are important for every one of all ages.  Through sport, people can achieve things and that’s a key part of what we’re trying to do here in Limehurst’.

This view is supported by Andrew Lord, Community Investment Manager at Contour Homes, who believes that sport has a vital role to play in the local community. “Sport can play a hugely important role in our communities. We are fully supportive of attempts to improve access to sports activities and facilities for local residents across Hollinwood. We would encourage all members of the community to come along and see how you can be involved”.

The drop in sessions will be held on Tuesday 25th February from 10am – 2pm and on February 26th February from 1pm – 5pm at the Regenda Group offices, St Chad’s Centre, Limegreen Parade, Limehurst Village, Oldham OL8 3HH.

Councillor Sean Fielding, Failsworth and Hollinwood District Executive Chair, said:  “We need to ensure that we are delivering quality services that are beneficial and to make sure this is happening we need to hear from residents – your views matter to us.”

And if you can’t make the drop in sessions pop into your local Regenda Group and Contour Homes offices from February 24th to March 12th and respond to our sporting survey for a chance to be entered into an exciting prize draw to win an adult and junior season ticket for Oldham Rugby League Club.
