Bright start needed — Naylor

SCOTT Naylor will demand a whirlwind start from Oldham against London Broncos’ full-timers at Bower Fold on Sunday (3pm).

Despite spending heavily for an all-out assault on promotion to Super League, the Londoners won narrowly at Swinton Lions and then suffered a home defeat by Hull KR in their first two Championship outings.

Big day for Leatherbarrow

SCOTT Leatherbarrow played 17 times last year for a London Broncos side that finished second to Leigh Centurions in the regular Championship season and then took Salford Red Devils to the wire for the right to play in the Million Pound Game.

A Wiganer, he later moved back north to become a Roughyed on a two-year deal — and on Sunday he faces the prospect of going head to head with his former team, shouldering heavy responsibility as our chief play-maker, main tactical kicker, vice-captain and goalkicker.

Summer Bash 2017 — 100 days to go

Our 2017 Summer Bash fixture against Rochdale Hornets is only 100 days away today.

Taking place on Saturday May 27 (2.30pm KO) at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road ground, the Oldham/Hornets game is one of four to take place that afternoon and fans with day or weekend tickets will be able to take in all the thrilling action.

Thaler the man in charge

BEN Thaler, one of England’s top referees, will handle Oldham’s Kingstone Press Championship game against London Broncos at Bower Fold, Stalybridge on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

Thaler (35), from Wakefield, and Oldham’s Robert Hicks were England’s full-time referees on the international panel that officiated at last year’s Four Nations Series.

Naylor getting ready for London

LIAM Thompson and Ben Davies, both out for several weeks with lower-back problems, could be pushing for recalls as early as this weekend, revealed Oldham RL boss Scott Naylor after last night’s training session.

Sammy Gee, also absent through injury at Featherstone, is another who might be available for Sunday’s tough clash with London Broncos at Bower Fold (3pm).
