Steve Deakin, the Roughyeds boss, is expected to name his side for
the Good Friday clash with derby rivals Rochdale Hornets at Spotland
(3pm kick off) after training tonight.
He will pick from a 20-man squad -- the 17 on duty in the 52-10 win
at Swinton last Sunday plus forwards Tommy Goulden, Tommy Grundy and
Warren Stevens.
"I'll announce the side once the players know," said Deaks, who has
already said that those in the 20 who don't play at Rochdale will
figure against Hunslet Hawks at Boundary Park on Monday (3pm kick
off).
Get there early on Monday because, to sing-in the new Co-operative
NL2 season, there will be a performance from one of the country's
top operatic tenors, Laurence Robinson, who has sung at most of the
country's major sporting venues at rugby league, rugby union and
football internationals and major domestic finals.
Also, be advised that one adult and one child can gain admission to
Boundary Park on Monday for a cut-price bargain price of £7. To take
advantage you need to acquire a voucher. These are available from
the club shop in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton (but only to 5pm this
evening, Thursday); from Multisportz in Shaw Road, Oldham; and
from some of the shops and businesses displaying match posters.
The vouchers then need to be paid for and exchanged for match
tickets at the Boundary Park ticket office before 2.30pm on Monday,
ahead of the 3pm kick-off.
Over Easter, Multisportz will be open Good Friday from 10am to 4pm;
Easter Saturday from 9am to 3pm; and Easter Monday from 10am to 2pm.
Their normal opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm and
Saturday 9.30am to 3pm, but they will also open Sunday in the
summer.
The normal opening hours at the club shop and office in Lansdowne
Road, Chadderton are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, but please note
that shop and office will be closed all day tomorrow, Good Friday.
At both outlets there is a full range of Roughyeds replica jerseys
and other leisure wear available as the club gears up for what
promises to be an exciting season in the Roughyeds pursuit of
promotion to NL1.
Incidentally, at Rochdale tomorrow the match will be played 20
years since Hornets and Oldham figured in the last match at the old
Athletic Grounds on April 1, 1988 when Oldham won a second division
match 58-6.
To mark the occasion Hornets have invited the players from their
team that day, to be introduced on the field before the kick off.
For the record, the Oldham team that day was: Burke; Atkinson, Foy,
McAlister, Meadows; Walsh, Ford; Sherratt, Sanderson, Waddell,
Casey, Graham, Warnecke. Subs: Irving (Richard), Hawkyard.
