TOMMY GOULDEN
ROUGHYEDS completed their first new signing for 2008 with the
capture on a two-year deal of Rochdale Hornets back-row forward
Tommy Goulden.
Equally at home in the second-row or at loose, 26-year-old Goulden
was a key member of the Hornets pack in 2006 and 2007, having been
signed from the amateur ranks by Bobbie Goulding towards the end of
the 2005 season.
Leigh born, he had picked up every possible honour as an amateur,
including captaincy of BARLA Great Britain, before he turned pro for
Hornets despite considerable interest from other clubs. Last season,
a relegation season for the Spotland outfit, he still picked up the
Supporters' player-of-the-year award.
"Tommy was relatively late joining the pro ranks," said Roughyeds
official Chris Hamilton, "but he quickly made a big impact at
Rochdale. We have been watching the situation for a bit and we are
very happy to get him on board.
"He is a no-nonsense forward and a good defender with a good pair of
hands."
