ROUGHYEDS fans intending to travel to Aldershot on Sunday for the
third round Carnegie Challenge Cup tie against the British Army
(1.30 pm kick off) will be asked to make a donation to British Army
charities in order to get into the stadium.
The Army are not allowed to charge admission prices to use the
Queens Parade Stadium, but they can receive donations to the
charity, soldiersleague.com, and the Oldham club has readily agreed
to ask their fans to contribute.
Donations will be £5 for adults and £3 for children and OAPs, and
this will be collected by Army personnel when fans arrive at the
stadium.
Said Roughyeds chief executive Chris Hamilton: "We agreed to ask our
fans to contribute in this way because we feel its the least we can
do, as a club, to support the British Army in everything it does at
home and around the world in order to protect our country.
"A lot of Army men and women are involved in active service in
various parts of the world and we are very appreciative of what they
do on our behalf.
"The charity to which we will be contributing looks after soldiers
who have been injured or disabled or who have fallen on hard times.
It is a very worthy cause indeed."
Refreshment huts and bars at the ground are operated by the charity
and all profits go to help the charity's coffers.
Fans are also reminded that anyone who fancies travelling on a
supporters bus to the game must book by 5pm on Wednesday at the
latest. The cost is £30. The bus will leave the Black Horse at
6.45am and the social club at 7am Bookings are being taken on 0161
628 3677 or on 0161 665 1832, but the club stresses that it may have
to cancel if there is not sufficient demand come cut off time at 5pm
Wednesday.
