Simon Baldwin and Matty Brooks will each have knee operations on Monday and both will be expected to be out of action for between four to six weeks.

It was confirmed that surgery was required when the two players saw a specialist yesterday. As far as knee operations go they will be of a less-serious nature, involving a clean-out and perhaps a cartilage trim.

Nevertheless, they will need at least a month of rehabilitation and probably another week on top of that in order to get back to the level of fitness required for match action.

Robert Roberts, meanwhile, was due back at hospital today to receive a final verdict on whether his fractured scaphoid will be put in plaster or left to heal naturally. He will be out for several weeks if the former course of action is necessary and perhaps two weeks if the specialist decides to leave well alone.

Of all the long-term injuries, Lucas Onyango looks like being the first back with a possible return after a shoulder injury in the reserves match against Rochdale Hornets on Saturday, April 12.

Coach Steve Deakin won't name his side to take on NL1 club Whitehaven at Boundary Park on Sunday (3pm kick off) in the last 16 of the Northern Rail Cup until later in the week, but with so many players currently on the casualty list it is clearly going to show little change, if any, from last week.

Deaks has revealed that, so far unsuccessfully, the club has been trying hard to bring in reinforcements on a loan basis.
